February 21, SteelGuru, India - It is reported that Xinyu Steel's 210 tonne No.1 converter, the core of the 3rd phase technology innovation project, successfully flowed out its first molten steel on February 18th. Thus, the I catena of the project is finished and eligible for putting into production.

Started in Jul 2007 with gross investment of CNY 1.715 billion the project is designed with 4.5 million tonnes per year capacity of continuous casting billets, mainly for low alloy steel, beam steel, shipbuilding steel and boiler & pressure vessel steel.

At present, the I catena, including comprehensive stock yard, finery, continuous caster and 1580mm hot continuous rolling mills, has been linked up. The technology innovation project is the largest one in local steel investment, listed as the key item of Jiangxi during the 11th Five Year Plan period.

It's expected that Xinyu Steel will be a steel complex with advanced techniques, optimized product mix and stronger competitiveness & economic effectiveness after the completion of the project.
