November 27, People's Daily Online - In the next 2 years, Jiangxi will invest 2.38 billion yuan to solve the safe drinking water issue for 6 million people with the hope that the problem of water shortage could be solved by 2013.

In 2006 Jiangxi province began to implement drinking water projects. Every place actively made use of town waterworks, and implemented rural drinking water projects through pipe network extension. The villages far away from towns built new centralized water supply projects where possible.

As for those remote mountain areas or villages with better sources of water, constructing water pools at high altitude bringing the high mountain spring to each household was the best option; for those scattered villages with high cost of building centralized water supply, drinking water wells were used to solve the problem in general.

Till now, centralized water supply projects have been completed in 165 thousand places, scattered water supply project have been completed in 44 thousand places, and the drinking water safety problem for more than 510 million rural people has been solved.
