The original regional aircraft will gradually be replaced by larger aircraft such as Boeing 737s and all flights will be transferred from the old airport to the new one. The new airport is sixteen kilometers from the city center of Ganzhou and is built with the aim of achieving a passenger flow of more than 500,000 a year. The new airport project costs RMB520 million and includes a 2,600-meter-long runway, a 36,000-square-meter parking area, and a 7,186-square-meter terminal building.

Ganzhou airport currently operates flights to Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen, and Nanchang. This airport is the second largest in Jiangxi province, after Nanchang Changbei International Airport.
