Jiangxi Expects Gains from 'Red Tourism'

September 28,  (chinadaily.com.cn) - Jiangxi Province, dubbed China's red cradle, is expected to lure 100,000 domestic and overseas tourists during the upcoming 2005 China (Jiangxi) Red Tourism Fair, a senior provincial official said.

"Red tourism" refers to visits to sites that in one way or another have relevance to China's "red" revolution from 1921, when the Communist Party of China was born, to 1949 when new China was founded.

Executive Vice Governor Wu Xinxiong said that Jiangxi has glorious "Red" history and rich tourism resources as the province is the place where China's Red Army was born in 1927, and China's first interim Soviet-style government was established in 1931.

Themed "Red Cradle, Green Garden", the fair is scheduled to open on October 28 in Nanchang, the provincial capital.
