Gifts from Hu to Lien, Soong Made in Jiangxi

May 13, Jiangxi Daily - Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with visiting People First Party Chairman James CY Soong from Taiwan in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, on May 12, 2005. After a formal talk, they presented gifts to each other. The gift form Hu to Soong, a ceramic vase, was made in Jingdezhen City, the porcelain capital of China in Jiangxi Province, and the gift from Hu to Lien Chan, the first chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT), or Nationalist Party, was baked in the same kiln.

The vase for Soong is named ¡°Âö(mai)¡±, meaning ¡°Lineage¡±, and the vase for Lien called ¡°Ô´(yuan)¡±, meaning ¡°Origin¡±. ¡°Mai¡± and ¡°Yuan¡± symbolize that the people across the Taiwan Strait are from the same roots and origin, and both the mainland and Taiwan are in the same family.

The two vases were mapped out by Xu Aimin, secretary of Jingdezhen Committee of the CPC, and created by great masters of art He Shushui, Xiong Gangru and Huang Shuiquan.
