Dance Explores Revolution


October 29, cctv.com - And now for an entertaining way to learn valuable bits of Chinese history. A large scale dance performance tells how the Chinese Communist Party came about. It takes place where it all began in The Jinggangshan Mountains in Jiangxi province.

Dozens of performers are involved with the musical which was organized by the local government to promote what's known as "Red Tourism" in the area. Tour packages are now being offered for the musical spectacle. Thirteen performances recount the turbulence of 1930s China.

Communist members, including Mao Zedong, made their way into the isolated Jinggangshan Mountains as they fled the Kuomingtang army. They would spend the next four years there, founding the Chinese brand of Communism.

The first Communist Party-led government was eventually set up in this area. It's also where Mao met up with Zhu De, the man known as the "Father of the Red Army".

The mountains cover an area of 670 square kilometers and stretch over the border of Hunan and Jiangxi provinces. The region is listed as one of the top 40 must-see tourist attractions in China.
