Too Many Birds Worry Vegetable Growers

December 8, Nanchang, (jxcn.cn) -  "More than ten thousands birds have arrived Changcun Village, Yangzi Island in Ganjiang River, Nanchang City, capital of Jiangxi Province in recent ten days. The uninvited guests come to eat our vegetables every day. We lost a lot, but do not know what to do," said a vegetable grower, surnamed Li, resident in the village.

Those birds, black and little bigger than sparrows, prefer tender leaves of vegetables. They come to eat every day about 5 pm, then fly into the wood near the village.

The birds may cause farmers of the village to lose money more than 200,000 yuan. Vegetables sell at 1 yuan per kg in Nanchang markets nowadays, but the bird eaten vegetables sell at 0.4-0.6 yuan per kg only.

In order to protect wildlife, vegetable growers do not put poison on vegetable plots. What they can do is waiting in the plots and driving the birds away.
